  • 1.     What is the importance of accreditation after being registered?

    Accreditation as a health researcher offers several significant benefits that can enhance your professional standing, research capabilities, and overall career prospects

    2.     Who is eligible for accreditation?

    Only registered researchers, research Institutions, or research Ethics Committees are eligible to apply for Accreditation

    3.     I am already a registered researcher do I need to be accredited?

    Yes, accreditation is a continuous process of quality assurance and improvement to ensure that researchers continue to meet prescribed standards

    4.     How often do I need to be accredited?

    Accredited Researchers, Research Institutions and Research Ethics Committee shall be required to renew their accredited every after two(2) years

    6.     What is the procedure for accreditation?

    -After you have obtained your registration certificate and made payment for accreditation

    -Create an account on E-learning platform (https://elearning.nhra.org.zm/login.php)

    -You will have to do nine (9) modules in order for you to complete the course and received your certificate

    7.     How much does Accreditation cost

    For local health researchers its K740 and for foreign health researchers its K1500

    8.     How much is renewal of Accreditation?

    For local health researchers its K300 and for foreign health researchers its K600

    9.     If I have done a GCP training, do I still need to be accredited?

    Yes you need to do the e-learning because it is based on the Zambian context and is localized.

    10.  Is the person who has been accredited required to be re-accredited with the introduction of e-learning.

    You will not be requested to do the e-learning only when renewing your accreditation, you will be requested to go through the course

    11.  How long does it take to receive approval when you apply for Accreditation and Registration?

    It takes 10 working days

    12.  Is there an average passing mark for all the e-learning modules?

    The average passing mark is 80%

    13.  If my project supervisor is accredited, do I also need to be accredited?

    Yes you need to be accredited as well.

    Q: How much is the registration fee for registration?

    A: The fee for Zambian researchers is K1,020 and non-Zambian researchers is K2,040. Fee schedules can be found using this link.

    Q: During my registration what do I put on the professional Registration Certificate?

    A: This is the professional body that you belong to such as Health Professional Council of Zambia (HPCZ), Nurses and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ), Zambia Monitoring and Evaluation Association (ZMEA), Veterinary Association of Zambia (VAZ) or the equivalent depending on your profession or country. Kindly note that if you do not belong to any professional body then you can upload your degree or equivalent.

    Q: What do I put on evidence of ethics training undertaken within the last three years?

    A: This is any Good Clinical Practice (GCP) course undertaken or any Human Subjects Protection training. If you have not undertaken any then you can upload your transcript/degree from your studies that shows evidence of courses undertaken.

    Q: What do I put on the declaration of conflict of interest?

    A: Kindly write on a word document stating your conflicts of interest in the conduct of your research. If you have no conflicts simply state that you have no conflict of interest to declare then sign and save in Pdf and finally upload

    Q: I have not received the activation link after creating my account what do I do next?

    A: Ensure you check through your email thoroughly including your spam box. If no link was sent kindly send an email to znhrasec@nhra.org.zm

    Q: I submitted my application for registration two days ago I have not received any feedback yet.

    A: The turnaround time for feedback is 10 working days please remember to take into account public holidays and weekends

    Q: I am seeing NHRA certificate on my application but I do not have an NHRA certificate what do I put?

    A: This field is not mandatory if you were not registered before the transition from the manual registration to RhinnO ethics then you can leave it blank.

    Q: I have already received ethics approval and I have an NHRA certificate, what do I need to do next to carry out my research?

    A: The next step is to apply for authority to conduct research using your NHRA RhinnO ethics account. Select New/Original study and fill out the application.

    Q: How much do I need to pay for NHRA to give me Authority to conduct research?

    A: undergraduates and postgraduates do not pay anything to the Authority however, researchers that are conducting studies that have Experimental Interventions, clinical trials, vulnerable populations, all key population studies, all internationally funded studies, all multi-site and multi centre studies are required to pay K 4000.     Q: I created an account on RHInnO ethics when making my UNZABREC application why am I unable to log in to the NHRA RHInnO ethics system?

    A: The RHInnO ethics system with UNZABREC is similar to the NHRA one but are different in functions. For the NHRA application you will need to create a new account on the NHRA RhinnO ethics to apply.

    While some studies offer compensation for participation, this is not always the case. Participants must feel free to inquire about compensation prior to participation.

    NHRA is a regulatory body that was established under the National Health Research Act   No. 2 of 2013, and is mandated to ensure that all health research conducted in Zambia follows ethical guidelines.

    4.     How does the National Health Research Act protect me as a participant?

    The National Health Research Act stipulates that all health research must adhere to:

    -Beneficence: As a participant, the potential benefits of taking part in a research study must always outweigh the potential risks

    -Justice: The potential risks and benefits must be equally distributed among all participants

    -Autonomy: Your right to make decisions about your wellbeing must be respected

    5.     What do I need to know to take part in a research study?

    As a research participant you must:

    -Be at least 18 years of age in order to consent to taking part in a study

    - Be willing to take part in the study, and have the written consent of a parent or legal guardian (if less than 18 years of age)

    -Be given full information about the potential risks and benefits of the study

    -Be given full information about what the study involves and what the information will be used for

    -Have full understanding about what your role in the study will be

    -Be aware that any personal information you share must be kept confidential
